The former Champions League holders were eliminated from the 1/16 final by an unknown side called Canet Roussillon

As shameful as it gets. That is the most precise way to describe Olympique de Marseille's humiliation in the 1/16 final of the French Cup, where they were swept off the pitch by an unknown fourth-tier side called Canet Roussillon 2-1. Don't try to Google them; you won't find much about the purple shirts slot. On the other hand, the French giants weren't resting their top stars, like Payet, Milik or Nagatomo. But 90 minutes of a truly miserable football resolved with the biggest upset of the night across Europe.

The Champions League winners from 1993 have won just three out of the last 15 games, and after this embarrassment, they probably pray for the season to end as soon as possible.

Marseille could smell the taste of defeat fast approaching after they conceded a goal in the 21st minute. Jeremy Posteraro nailed it tremendously from the free-kick.

The visitors struck back thanks to Milik close to the half-time break, but it was their swan song at Gilbert Brutus stadium. Posteraro shined once again in the middle of the second half, providing the assist for the crucial goal, netted by Yohan Bai. There was plenty of time still left on the clock, but when you are pathetic as Olympique this season, three whole games wouldn't be enough to turn the tables. The stage was set for a miracle, a true David and Goliath story on Sunday night. That's the beauty of football - the giants are on their knees.
