Ombija scored in both fixtures against Western Stima

Nairobi City Stars forward Erick Ombija has heaped praises on his teammates for the character they displayed to stage a stellar comeback against Western Stima on Tuesday at Ruaraka Grounds.

The former Gor Mahia player said that Simba wa Nairobi will continue fighting till the end of the season, just like they did in the 2-1 win against Western Stima, and aim for a decent finish.

Stima had managed to protect the lead they took towards the end of the first half courtesy of teenage sensation Rodgers Ouma until the latter stages of the second half but Ombija's strike in the 85th minute inspired the Kawangware-based side to go for the win.

Coincidentally, Peter Opiyo Pinchez scored City Stars' second to seal the comeback. Both Opiyo and Ombija scored in the first leg of this encounter as City Stars saw off the Kisumu-based side 2-0 at Kisumu

“I am humbled. I scored the goal at a very crucial time in the game. I want to congratulate my teammates for the character they should in the game and to thank all those that contributed to the win. We will fight right to the very end. On my side, I have to say I have had a good record against Stima as I have only failed to score once in the last four encounters," Ombija said.

His coach, Sanjin Alagic shares the same sentiments about the character exhibited by his team against Western Stima.

Sanjin, on his part, added that the reaction in the second half was phenomenal but insisted that the performance in that game was not the best for the team.

“First I want to congratulate my players for the great comeback and win. They showed the right attitude and determination. The real picture of the character that the team has came out. I’m delighted at how they reacted in the second half. To be honest this wasn’t our best performance. As much as we were the better and dominant team all through the match, it was obvious we failed to find the right solutions in the final third of the pitch. But in the end, we deserved this win. We will enjoy it until the next game,” Sanjin said

Nairobi City Stars are currently eight on the log with 26 points from 19 matches.
