Old boy Goretzka's double helps Bayern win

Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg played 31 times in their history at the Allianz Arena (27 in Bundesliga and four in the DFB Cup) and the guests have never won in Munich. After today’s game away fans only saw that negative streak extended for another year: Bayern – Wolfsburg 3-2. There was never question about about the home win today, even with the fact that Wolfsburg managed two consecutive wins in 2025. The guests also bost third-best away record in Bundesliga with five wins, but that was not good enough for the currently best team in Germany who are yet to be defeated at the Allianz Arena. With this triumph, the Bavarians are seven points ahead of the current champion Bayer Leverkusen, who are playing later during the night against Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Bavarians are so lethal in recent times that scoring ’only’ three goals against today’s opponent is considered weak. They managed five goals against Leipzig and Hoffenheim, while they won 1-0 in Monchengladbach but with a dubious penalty and the hosts are the team who is always playing tough against the Bavarians anyway. Today they had numerous chances to score more than three goals, but it wasn’t meant to be. But it was a once first team regular Leon Goretzka who finally started the game and scored a brace in this win. But from his second effort in 62nd minute, the hosts went from focused to totally relaxed and allowed a late time goal.

Goretzka, who has been revived under Bayern coach Vincent Kompany this season, cut a superb low shot across the goal to open the scoring 20 minutes in. Wolfsburg hit back against the run of play with a simple Mohammed Amoura goal shortly afterwards. The Bavarian giants wrestled back control of the game before half-time as Michael Olise, in the starting XI ahead of the recovering Jamal Musiala, finished off a fluent team move. Goretzka then added his second on the 62-minute mark, heading in an b free-kick. Amoura scored with two minutes left to give Wolfsburg hope, failed to score the third one.
