Clarke Oduor's Barnsley will have to overturn a 0-1 deficit in the second leg of the Championship Promotion Playoffs.

Kenyan international Clarke Oduor’s Barnsley will have all to do in the second leg after suffering a deflating 0-1 loss to Swansea in the Championship Promotion Playoffs.

Oduor who has fallen out of favour with head coach Valerien Ismaël missed the matchday squad altogether after being deemed surplus to requirements.

The 21-year-old has been an unused substitute in Barnsley's regular-season matches with his last appearance for the club coming back in December.

Both teams arrived into the match in contrasting form with the Welsh club on a run of six defeats in 11 matches while Barnsley was flying high with 13 wins in 19 games.

After a frenetic start to the clash for Barnsley, Swansea finally settled into the game and took the lead through Ghanaian forward Andre Ayew in the 39th-minute, curling in an effort from the left.

Despite a strong second half, Swansea held on for the win and suffered a late scare when Carlton Morris's backheel from a corner cannoned off the woodwork.

Barnsley will have a chance to redeem themselves in the second leg slated for Saturday 22nd May at the Liberty Stadium.

The winner after both ties will head to the Championship Promotion Playoff finals at Wembley Stadium where they will face either Bournemouth or Brentford.

The Championship play-off final is considered the most valuable single football match in the world as a result of the increase in revenue to the winning club from sponsorship and media agreements.
