Homeboyz winger says Okumbi's call is a reward to his efforts, vows to force way to senior team

Kakamega Homeboyz winger David Odhiambo feels that his inclusion in the national U23 is the fruit of his hard work.

Odhiambo is among the overage players summoned by coach Stanley Okumbi for the forthcoming CECAFA tournament which leaves the door open for three players who have above the age category to grace the championship.

The pacy winger who was decorated as the May Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF PL) player of the month courtesy of his three goals and an assist termed the call from coach Okumbi as a perfect honor to his resolve to break to light this season.

The 27-year old made good use of the opportunity when Homeboyz took on Posta last month firing home a brace in the full glare of Okumbi in a match which they won 3-1.

He says the two goals and his contribution in unlocking the stubborn Rangers defence went a long way in convincing the former Harambee Stars boss that he was one of the players to build the Emerging Stars team on.

"I am grateful to Okumbi for calling me to the team. I have been working hard for years to get the call up. I believe scoring twice against Rangers send a message to the coach that I have something to offer to the team," he said

Odhiambo who expressed optimism in making to the traveling party said he would seize the opportunity and impress the senior team coach.

He said a good show in Ethiopia will compel coach Jacob 'Ghost' Mulee to include him in his plan for the next international assignments.

" I think this is a perfect stepping stone for me as I am targeting to play for the senior team. If I carry my league form to Ethiopia, I am sure Ghost will consider me," he added.
