Nzoia defender rallies on teammates to pull up their socks

Nzoia Sugar FC defender Gabriel Wandera says they will have to up their game as they stand a risk of slipping further down in the FKF Premier League table. 

The Millers suffered a 1-0 defeat in the hands of AFC Leopards on Saturday at Ruaraka Grounds, a result that pushed them from 12th to 14th in the log. Nzoia created many chances in the game but wastefulness saw them drop three points against largely off-color Ingwe. 

In an interview, the lanky defender described the defeat as a 'difficult one to take' as they were keen on getting maximum points against Ingwe. 

"It's a tough one to take because we came here for three points and based on the chances that we created, we didn't deserve to lose the game to AFC Leopards, at worst we should have taken a draw, " he told Mozzart Sport.

Wandera further lamented on the chances they threw away saying had they utilized two, they would have won the game. 

"We played well, created very many chances - had we taken even two of the many we would have won the game. In the end, the game was decided by Leopards taking their chances and us wasting the many that we created in both halves," he continued.

Wandera understands that their current position is not good and has issued a rallying call to his teammates. 

"The truth is our position at the table is not good. We have to work and start winning as soon as possible. We are done with the first leg and we should now focus on starting the second leg strongly, the target is to finish in the top ten positions and the only way to achieve that is through winning gamed consistently," he concluded.

Nzoia will next host Mathare United at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma.
