By the close of play, Mombasa United had tightened their grip on the summit, while Nzoia Sugar reignited their promotion ambitions emphatically.

At Marist Grounds, hosts Darajani Gogo were left stunned after losing 2-1 to a resilient Mombasa United side determined to assert their authority at the top.

The home side initially looked poised to cause an upset when they struck early in the second half, sending the crowd into celebration and momentarily disrupting the visitors’ rhythm.

But champions-in-waiting often reveal their character under pressure, and the coastal outfit responded with composure and conviction.

Second-half strikes from Prince Tweneboah Atto and Dennis Mabeya turned the contest on its head, sealing a vital away victory.

The comeback performance underscored Mombasa United’s growing reputation for resilience and tactical discipline under head coach Gilbert Selebwa.

The result marked their fifth consecutive win, a run that reflects consistency, belief, and mounting momentum at a decisive stage of the season.

Backed by the Shahbal Foundation, Mombasa United surged back to the top of the NSL standings on 43 points, opening a three-point cushion over second-placed Migori Youth FC.

With each passing fixture, their quest for a maiden NSL title and historic promotion to the FKF Premier League gathers increasing legitimacy.

For Darajani Gogo, however, the defeat deepened an alarming slide.

The loss extended their winless run to seven matches and left them hovering perilously above the relegation zone.

It also marked coach Kelly Ogutu’s first defeat in only his second match in charge, an early setback in what is fast becoming a survival battle.

At Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo, the western derby produced fireworks, but only from one side.

Nzoia Sugar were ruthless, dismantling Vihiga United 4-0 in a commanding display that emphatically halted their four-match winless streak.

From the opening exchanges, the visitors imposed tempo, physicality, and clinical efficiency in front of goal.

The Sudi-based outfit showed renewed hunger and sharpness, translating dominance into goals and leaving the hosts overwhelmed.

With the three points secured, Nzoia Sugar climbed to ninth position, now nine points adrift of the automatic promotion places.

While the gap remains significant, the statement win signals renewed intent in their push for an immediate return to the FKF Premier League.

For Vihiga United, the picture grows increasingly bleak. The heavy defeat marked their 11th loss of the campaign, leaving them rooted at the foot of the standings.
