The Slum Boys top the National Super League with 19 points

The rescheduled National Super League tie between Mathare United and Nairobi United is set to be played this afternoon with both capital-based clubs keen on getting maximum points from the duel.

The game was initially set to be played in week four bad a court battle between Zoo FC and Football Kenya Federation saw matches involving Nairobi United postponed.

The federation acquired orders that resulted in the Paul Okatwa-led team resuming league duty.

Mathare tops the National Super League with 19 points after eight rounds of league assignments.

They have managed six wins, a draw, and one defeat. Naibois on the other hand are seventh in the log with 13 points after seven rounds of league matches.

They have managed three wins and four draws with stalemates as the main Achilles heel for the club.

Last time out Mathare United beat MCF 1-0 at the Ruaraka Grounds while Naibois had to come from a goal down to secure a point in a 1-1 draw against Vihiga Bullets at the Kasarani Annex.

Ahead of the game, coach Okatwa understands that the match will not be a walk in the park and has urged his boys to step up and get a win, a result that will lift them to fifth in the table.

“Playing Mathare is never easy, and that’s why I am preparing my team for a real fight on Wednesday. Against them (Mathare), we have to do better. We have to minimize the mistakes we make, be hungrier, and do better than we did last Saturday against Bullets, where our performance was lethargic,” Okatwa said.

“We need to step up on our energies, I have challenged my boys to make the same efforts from the start to the end, not giving them chances we must show we are ready for the big stage and you can only do that by beating such tough opponents,”.

The match starts at 3PM.
