At the heart of Saturday’s fixtures will be the clash at Marist University grounds where promotion hopefuls Equity FC travel to face relegation-threatened Darajani Gogo in a match carrying huge implications at both ends of the table.

Their hosts Gucha, however, remain equally motivated as they continue their quest to secure safety in their debut season.

The Kisii-based side sit 14th on 34 points, six above the relegation zone, though they are yet to completely pull away from danger with seven matches still left to play.

Gucha head into the match after holding Kibera Black Stars to a barren draw last weekend, a result that halted a run of consecutive defeats.

Coach Charles Odera’s side head into the derby winless in two matches and will be looking to return to winning ways as they continue their pursuit of a top-five finish.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Odera acknowledged the unpredictable nature of derby matches.

“It’s definitely going to be a tough match because derbies are never determined by form, history or even home advantage. We expect a strong challenge from Luanda Villa just like in the first leg, but we are prepared to fight for a positive result,” he told Mozzart Sport.

The tactician also admitted disappointment over the club’s failure to meet its promotion target this season.

“It has been a disappointing campaign because we had ambitions of returning to where the club belongs. Unfortunately, we have fallen short, but we now have to focus on finishing strongly and preparing better for next season,” he added.

Luanda Villa, on the other hand, travel to Sudi Stadium with renewed confidence after recording back-to-back victories that have boosted their survival bid.

Leonard Swaleh’s side know another win would move them to 38 points and further distance them from the relegation zone.

The first meeting between the two sides ended in a goalless draw, adding further spice to a contest expected to produce another fiercely contested western derby.

In the final fixture of the round, former FKF Premier League side Nairobi City Stars will host bottom-placed Vihiga United in another crucial clash.

The Vihiga-based side have endured a miserable campaign and remain rooted at the bottom of the standings after spending much of the season in the relegation zone.
