No love lost: Only two first team players say goodbye to Potter

Some players even liked the post announcing his sacking
It totally deserved, it should have been done before. That is the main conclusion of Graham Potter sacking if you ask Chelsea supporters. And if we could somehow ask the players to comment on the departure of their boss, we would probably get the same answer from the vast majority of men in the locker room. But even if they don’t talk about it in public (and rightly so), there is no love lost between Potter and his players, and that is obvious just days after his dismissal. Just look at the social media profiles of some of them.

Two players who felt that their abilities were not appreciated are certainly Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Denis Zakaria. Former Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach players were cheeky enough to like the post on Chelsea’s Instagram account in which the club informed the public that the coach is sacked. Defender Ben Chilwell was the first on Monday night, posting an Instagram story showing him hugging Potter and the message 'Thank you gaffer' and a blue heart emoji. Next was from Cucurella, who knew Potter from Brighton. The Spaniard posted a picture of the pair speaking on the training ground and the words: 'Thanks and best of luck in the future, gaffer!'
Other players joined too, like Armando Broja, who is currently injured, or a newcomer Noni Madueke (‘Will always be grateful to you coach. All the best truly!'), but in fact, only Chilwell and Cucurella were regulars in the starting 11. Others stayed silent. On the other hand, Potter has rejected an early approach from Leicester to become their new boss and said to the club owners that he will step away from the game shortly, which probably means that he won’t take any jobs until June. He will rest a bit and count his 13 million pounds, which he is bound to receive in a compensation package. In the meantime, Chelsea is looking for a new boss, as the biggest available names are out there, ready for taking: Zinedine Zidane, Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique and Mauricio Pochettino. But until then, his former assistant Bruno Saltor will be in charge, meaning he will make his managerial debut tonight when Chelsea host Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
