Never-say-die islanders from Majorca taste success in survival six-pointer

It's been a long time coming, but Mallorca have got themselves a precious win. The fact that it came against relegation rivals Cadiz makes the three points feel even bigger.

After succumbing to four successive losses, the hosts came from behind to beat the Andalusians 2-1 and make a giant stride on their road to securing La Liga football for the next season. As things stand, they are five points above today's opponents with a potentially revitalizing boost in confidence.

The match has been a nervy one as you'd expect, with the second half extended by no less than ten minutes by the officials. The all-important goals for Mallorca at Son Moix Stadium came from the penalty spot with Salva Sevilla and newly-signed Vedat Muriqi on target.

Cadiz desperately tried to equalise as they attempted to avoid defeat against a direct relegation rival, but the visitors' many crosses lacked precision, allowing Mallorca defence to see out the game comfortably. It was the islanders who could have scored a third through Abdon Prats, who saw his shot hit the right post.

Mallorcan fans can now breathe a bit easier, but survival hasn't been secured yet!
