The new champion of Italy is doing everything possible to appear serious on all fronts next season, with the entire management holding talks with the brilliant tactician

After winning the Serie A title, Napoli is determined to approach battles on multiple fronts—including the Champions League—with seriousness. Bringing in a free but high-quality striker represents both a tactical and financial masterstroke, and that's exactly what Aurelio De Laurentiis is aiming for by signing Jonathan David.

According to Italian media, Napoli has already offered the 25-year-old Canadian a five-year contract worth 6 milion euros per season. That offer, combined with their status as the new Serie A champions, puts the southern Italian club in a favorable position ahead of other interested European giants. David’s contract with Lille officially expires on June 30, meaning Napoli has the opportunity to bring in a proven goal scorer without paying a transfer fee—although significant signing bonuses and agent fees will likely be involved.

David has spent four seasons at Lille, scoring over 70 goals in all competitions during that time. With his pace, precision, and killer instinct in the box, he’s built a reputation as one of the most reliable young forwards in Europe. He particularly impressed during the 2020/21 season, playing a key role in Lille’s Ligue 1 title win that ended PSG’s dominance.

In Naples, everything is set for major decisions. Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis and Antonio Conte spent nearly four hours in deep discussion at De Laurentiis’ residence. Although no final decision has been made yet, the meeting was described as "open, direct, and intense." By Friday, clarity is expected: will Conte stay, or is a new chapter about to begin?

The talks focused on the club’s vision for the future and guarantees. De Laurentiis tried to convince Conte by presenting an ambitious plan to rebuild the team and compete on two fronts: defending the Serie A title and pushing for a deep European campaign. The president promised top-tier market ambitions, with blockbuster signings—Kevin De Bruyne is already reportedly close—and it’s clear Jonathan David would be the next major move.

Conte, however, still has doubts, particularly due to a weak winter transfer window and certain internal uncertainties. But according to Italian media, the emotional support from fans two days ago—when the city hailed Conte as a champion—might turn the tide. It was a rare display of affection for a coach.

Meanwhile, De Laurentiis doesn’t want to be left without a plan, so he has received verbal approval from Massimiliano Allegri as a backup option. However, Allegri also has other offers, including one from Milan. That’s why Napoli is demanding a clear answer from Conte—no later than Friday.

If Conte stays, he’ll likely lead the strongest team of his career. If he leaves, Napoli won’t stop. One thing is certain: a summer earthquake is brewing in Naples—possibly on the bench, but definitely on the pitch.
