Nairobi City Stars custodian elated after Premier League debut

Nairobi City Stars goalkeeper Elvis Ochoro is over the moon after finally making his top-flight debut after waiting for two seasons.

The custodian was the man between the sticks for Simba Wa Nairobi for the club's final game of their 2021/22 Football Kenya Federation Premier League campaign against FC Talanta at Kasarani Annex earlier in the month, getting the starting nod ahead of Jacob Osano who was the preferred shot-stopper for the season.

While reflecting on his maiden Premier League appearance, a happy Ochoro termed his first game an eye-opener, noting that he would be taking vital lessons from that appearance and will look forward to playing regularly.

“I am happy to have made my premier league debut though it’s taken two seasons for it to come. My first game was an eye-opener and I’ll take many lessons home from it. There’s a lot to learn from but I must say the taste of top-flight football is exciting. And I want more of it.” Ochoro said as quoted on the club's portal.

In the two seasons that the custodian has been with Nairobi City Stars, first with Bosnian Sanjin Alagic and now under the tutelage of Nicholas Muyoti, he has been an unused substitute 32 times.

In the just-concluded season, he was included on the team sheet 15 times, being unused in 14 of those while in the previous season he was named 18 times and unused in all.

He spent his formative football years at Makadara Junior League, and joined City Stars in 2020 from regional league side Hakati Sportiff besides having spent four months at the famed Generation Foot Academy in Dakar, Senegal in 2019.
