After extending his stay at the den, youthful AFC Leopards goalkeeper Maxwell Mulili has declared his intention of running away with the number one role from next season.

The former national U20 goalkeeper agreed to a three-year contract extension with Leopards last week, a move that is certainly welcome to the club considering the existing player transfer ban imposed by FIFA.

Mulili who served as an understudy to Levis Opiyo last season says he has come of age and time is ripe for him to feature in the first team consistently.

The former national U-17 shot stopper has never enjoyed much playing time since his arrival at the den in August 2019 as he had to contend with warming the bench in his maiden season at the club.

He was loaned out to Zoo FC in the subsequent term only to last for half a season at the Kericho based side that has since sunk to the third tier.

The former former forward-turned custodian however appreciates that his ambition is not guaranteed and will, just like the rest have to break sweat for it.

"I am looking forward to serving the club as the first choice goalkeeper in the next three years. I think I have watched proceedings from the bench for quite enough time. I have to work harder and polish the weak areas for me to play as much as I want," he said.

Mulili in the meantime hailed the club's goalkeepers' trainer Lawrence Webo for making him a better custodian for the years he has worked under the former player.

The dreadlocked gloveman labeled the former Kenyan international as an easy going professional who had brought the best out of him.
