The South African became the first non-Egyptian African coach to lead the club in its 113 year history.

On Friday night, celebrated South African coach Pitso Mosimane emerged victorious yet again in Doha, Qatar.

Mosimane nourished his profile again after guiding Al Ahly to clinch the CAF Super Cup.

Second half goals from Mohamed Sherif and Salah Mohsen were enough to humble Moroccan giants RS Berkane 2-0.

Al Ahly qualified for the Super Cup by edging out their sworn rivals Zamalek in the 2020 Champions League final while Berkane secured their place with a victory over Pyramids in the Confederation Cup finals.

Forward Sherif hammered a left-foot shot past Berkane’s goalkeeper to the far corner to open the scoring flow in the 57th minute.

Eight minutes from time, the unmarked Mohsen put the results beyond the reach of Berkane after rounding the goalkeeper to squeeze the ball past the line.

In winning the match yesterday night, the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach lifted his fourth trophy inside just seven months since being appointed the new head coach at the Red Devils back in October 2020.

The South African born coach has now won four CAF competitions, one less than the most successful African Faouzi Benzarti from Tunisia.

Mosimane however still has a chance to equal that record as his side are in the semifinals of the current Champions League where they will face Esperance next month after eliminating Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 on aggregate.

The result once again confirmed the supremacy of the Egyptian giants in the African continent. The club now has the most African titles to its name: Nine victories in the Champions League, seven in the Super Cup four in the African Cup winners’ Cup and one in the Confederation Cup.
