Monaco on wounded PSG's tail

Reading Time: 2min | Sat. 09.11.24. | 13:20

After Marseille's last night's defeat, Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain could continue the title race twosome

Despite last night's devastating loss to Auxerre at Velodrome, Olympique Marseille are still in second Ligue 1 position. But probably not for long since both Monaco and Lille have a chance to outstrip Roberto De Zerbi's team and move it to fourth spot.

Les Rouge and Blanc from the Principality could do that today (19.00) in Strasbourg and thus break a three-match winless streak in Ligue 1. After a draw against Lille, the defeats to Nice and especially Angers at home stunned Adi Hutter's boys, who are six points behind Paris Saint-Germain and have no room for error. The Champions League triumphs over Red Star Belgrade and Bologna were there to soften the blow, but the domestic competition and the title race cannot be neglected.

Four hours later and almost 800 kilometres farther, Angers will host PSG. The Parisians are in a completely opposite situation than their rivals from Stade Louis II since they failed to win their previous three UCL clashes and currently sit in the elimination zone and their knockout phase qualification is hanging in the balance.

Things in Ligue 1 function perfectly, but the Champions League has been the PSG owners' dream for a long time. Still, Angers must not be underestimated, especially after Alexandre Dujeux's lad showed what they are capable of in Monaco eight days ago. Either way, today's matches could answer whether the race for the Ligue 1 crown is still on or the Saints could start preparing for their fourth coronation in a row.
