Cutthroat competition in Gor Mahia defence has left the lanky stopper without game time.
Experienced Gor Mahia centre back Charles Momanyi is plotting to break his way back to the starting league team after six rounds in the cold.
Momanyi has been uncharacteristically overlooked for starting duties in the past six rounds as coach Carlos Vaz Pinto has been preferring a three man back line.
His absence has since seen national U20 centre Frank Odhiambo make his debut and defy odds to establish himself in the starting team.
Momanyi who has made two cameos in the six league duels revealed that family issues had kept him out for a while ut was angling at muscling for a starting berth when the league resumes next week.
" Family issues had kept me away for some time but I am slowly coming back. The coach was aware of what I was going through and would excuse me handle it. I am working hard to reclaim my place in the starting team when the league resumes next week," he clarified.
Momanyi who was part of the Harambee Stars squad which clinched the 2017 edition of CECAFA Senior Challenge his teammates for helping the club record five successive league wins for the time he has been away.
Gor were largely written off in the first leg following a false start have found their footing after recording five successive wins to close in the gap between them and the top two teams.
"The most important thing is the team has been doing well even in my absence. We are on course to defend the league and even claim the Cup. There is a lot of improvement in the defence and hopefully we will keep the fire burning," he added.
Momanyi has clocked full time in the last two Cup matches against Mara Sugar and Cusco.
