Real Madrid were dominant against Sevilla for a much-deserved 4-2 home win, thus leapfrogging Barcelona

That was just a perfect way to end 2024. Real Madrid have returned to second place, above Barcelona, with a convincing 4-2 home win over Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday night.

The flawless hosts were led by impeccable Kylian Mbappe, who opened the scoring by firing brilliantly from outside the box. The Frenchman has scored in four consecutive games in all competitions.

Los Blancos doubled the lead ten minutes later, as Fede Valverde netted a screamer. Rodrygo made it 3-0 after the break, finishing off a wonderful team effort. Sevilla responded instantly, though, through Isaac Romero, who headed it home just a minute later.

Still, it was far from over, and Real Madrid restored a three-goal lead thanks to Brahim Diaz's shot, provided by a superb Mbappe's assist. The visiting side managed to peg one back again, with Lukebakio strucking it low past Courtois to make it 4-2.

This loss to Madrid was Jesus Navas' last game ever, as he came on in the 65th minute for Sevilla to play the last half an hour of his professional and highly successfull career.
