The Slum Boys confirmed the capture of the much-sought-after attacker on Saturday afternoon, beating stiff competition from fellow Premier League outfits Shabana FC and Kakamega Homeboyz, both of whom had expressed strong interest in securing the services of the exciting youngster.

Omweri joins Mathare as a free agent after running down his contract with Nairobi United, bringing to an end a highly productive spell with the ambitious club.

Announcing the signing through their official communication channels, Mathare United described Omweri as a major acquisition and underlined the club’s belief in his attacking quality and potential.

“Mathare signs offensive wizard Omweri. The club is pleased to announce the signing of Isaac Omweri, who was most recently attached to Nairobi United.

The winger becomes our second signing this January and joins Michael Oduor in committing his immediate future to the club,” read part of the club’s statement.

Speaking shortly after putting pen to paper, the former Shabana winger expressed delight at joining a club with deep roots in Kenyan football, citing Mathare United’s rich heritage as a key factor in his decision.

“I am happy to be here and to continue my career at such a historic club. Mathare United is a team with a strong identity and tradition, and I am honoured to be chosen to add to that history,” said Omweri, a former Kibabii High School alumnus.

Omweri arrives at Mathare with a growing reputation as one of the most exciting young attackers in the country.

His influence and consistency earned him the club’s Most Valuable Player award at the end-of-season gala held in Mombasa.

That campaign proved historic for Nairobi United, with Omweri playing a central role as the club secured a domestic double, clinching their maiden National Super League (NSL) title, earning automatic promotion to the top tier, and later crowning the year with Mozzart Bet Cup glory after edging record league champions Gor Mahia 2–1 in the final.

He had also been instrumental earlier in Nairobi United’s journey from the FKF Division One to the NSL in 2023.

Omweri becomes Mathare United’s second statement mid-season signing, following the arrival of experienced winger Mike Oduor, a move that underlines the club’s ambition to rewrite their season narrative.

With renewed attacking options and youthful energy injected into the squad, Mathare appear determined to re-establish themselves among the league’s elite and challenge for honours.

As the second half of the campaign unfolds, the acquisition of Omweri stands as a bold declaration of intent from a club eager to rekindle past glory and end a nearly two-decade wait since their last Premier League triumph in 2008.
