Mokaya becomes Mathare United’s fifth mid-season signing, following the arrivals of: Harambee Stars forward John Mark Makwata from Bandari FC, Kenya U-20 midfielder Isaac Omweri from Nairobi United, former Tusker FC winger Michael Oduor, and defender Adams Nyambane, also from Nairobi United.
Speaking after completing the move, Mokaya expressed delight at joining Mathare United, describing the transfer as a homecoming after returning to Nairobi, a city he credits for some of the most defining moments of his career.
“I am happy to join the team and to be back in Nairobi, where I have had some tremendous moments in my career. I feel I am home already, and everyone, including the coach, has made me feel very welcome,” Mokaya said in an interview with club media.
The left-footed attacking midfielder, further revealed that prolonged discussions with head coach John Kamau played a pivotal role in influencing his decision to switch allegiance.
“I have been in contact with coach Kamau for quite some time now, and he let me know early on that if I wanted a change, he would be ready to take me on board,” he added.
Mokaya’s arrival underlines Mathare United’s intent to revive their campaign as they push for a strong second-half surge in the FKF-PL.
The club is aiming to reassert itself among the league’s elite and mount a long-term challenge for a second league title, an honour that has eluded them for nearly two decades.
Mathare currently sits 12th on the 18-team league standings with 21 points, 12 adrift of joint league leaders AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia.
