FKF Premier League side Mathare United have strengthened their midfield options with the signing of experienced midfielder Jacob “Yobo” Onyango on a two-year deal from Bidco United.

The Slum Boys confirmed Onyango’s arrival on Wednesday evening, marking their second major acquisition of the transfer window after securing the services of two-time FKF-PL champion John Macharia.

"Yobo is a Slumboy. Mathare United is delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Jacob Onyango, who will wear the famous yellow and green for the 2025/26 season,” read part of the club’s statement.

The seasoned midfielder, renowned for his powerful long-range strikes, brings a wealth of experience to John Kamau’s squad.

Having turned out for Ulinzi Stars, Nairobi City Stars, and the now-defunct Nakumatt FC in addition to his two stints at Bidco United, Onyango is widely respected for his creativity and leadership on the pitch.

His move to the 2008 league champions comes just 24 hours after he was among 14 players released by Bidco United as the Oilers reshaped their squad ahead of the new campaign.

Mathare United, who finished 10th last season with 40 points in their return to the top-flight, are clearly signaling intent to push higher up the table.

The club has already parted ways with eight players, including former AFC Leopards captain Eugene Mukangula, as part of an extensive squad overhaul.

Onyango’s arrival is expected to inject both quality and depth into Mathare’s midfield, giving the side a balance of youth and experience as they target an improved showing in the 2025/26 FKF Premier League season.
