He picked up the injury in a friendly match against Kibera Angels last week and will be out for the better part of the first leg.

Mathare United have been dealt a blow after midfielder Amos Okoth suffered an undisplaced fracture to his left fibula.

Consequently, the club will have to do without the services of the defensive midfielder for at least eight weeks.

According to the club, Okoth picked up the injury in a friendly match against Kibera Angels last week and will be out for the better part of the first leg.

"Amos Okoth will be out for the next eight weeks after sustaining an undisplaced fracture to his left fibula. The combative midfielder suffered the injury during a friendly match with Kibera Angels last Thursday,” said the club.

Okoth is among the more than half a dozen players who joined the Slum Boys in the off-season transfer window.

He joined the club at the start of the season from FKF Division Two side Shofco FC and made his debut in the 2-0 win over Mara Sugar on matchday six. He came on for the final 19 minutes at the Utalii grounds.

Mathare were forced to rebuild after losing majority of the players who were attached to the club last season.

Mathare have been doing fairly well in the National Super League, as the Leonard Odipo-coached side has won four matches, drawn one, and lost once.

The 2008 league winners were relegated to the second tier after finishing second from bottom in the top flight last season.

They were dropped alongside Vihiga Bullets, who have since relocated to Nairobi after the club was apparently sold.

Mathare are scheduled to play Gusii FC on Sunday.
