The 2008 league champions have gone for four matches without a win

Mathare United will draw inspiration from their 2-2 draw against Kakamega Homeboyz backyard when they seek to bounce back to their winning ways in a weekend clash with Nairobi City Stars, forward Eugene Wethuli has said.

The 2008 league champions reaped a priceless point away to Homeboyz on Wednesday in a match that all the odds were stacked in favour of the hosts who are yet to lose a fixture this season.

Homeboyz needed two late goals from Congolese import Yema Mwamba and Sunday Mutuku to cancel out an own goal by Brian Eshihanda and Wethuli's strike.

Wethuli who is glad to have opened his goal account in the term says the point gained at Bukhungu was a clearest indication that the team was determined to arrest their poor run and finish in a respectable rank.

The slum boys had lost three consecutive matches to Kariobangi Sharks, Bidco United and FC Talanta before the trip to Homeboyz that exposed the financial struggles at the club as they arrived hours to kick off.

Mathare have been barely surviving since cutting ties with their last shirt sponsor in March under unclear terms.

"The team fought gallantly in a territory that is difficult to get a point leave alone a win. It is unfortunate we conceded deep into stoppage time perhaps due to the challenges we had faced before the game but we still appreciate the point. The result left the team inspired that we can get the three points when the face City Stars, "he said.

City Stars will also be looking to find their winning mojo after failing to gather maximum points in their last two matches against Nzoia Sugar whom they wrestled for a barren draw and Sharks who handed them a 2-1 beating.

Wethuli who joined the club last year from Nairobi Stima in the meantime has set a target of seven goals as his personal irreducible minimum in the season.
