The Crystal Palace striker is eager to get into Didier Deschamps' squad and believes he can't do it if he stays at Selhurst Park

Jean-Phillipe Mateta is close to joining AC Milan and the player is eager to agree on a deal with the Serie A giants, L'Equipe reports.

According to them, Mateta is aiming to make France's squad for the 2026 World Cup and supposedly sees the need to step up to the next level above the Selhurst Park outfit.

The only issue could be a €30 million price tag for the 28-year-old as the San Siro club has a limited budget.

After a below-par 2024-25 season - which the Rossoneri finished eighth thus missing European football in the upcoming season - money could be quite an issue.

However, for Mateta, it is clear he would not turn down such an opportunity as to play for one of Europe's most decorated clubs, especially if it helps him gain an advantage in his dream of playing at the World Cup for Didier Deschamps' team.
