The Sugar Millers will be away to Kariobangi Sharks in a match set to be played on the league's final day, Sunday 22 June, at the Utalii Grounds from 1500 hrs.
Ahead of the match, Mara are in the mix of the relegation matrix at 13th on the log with 36 points, just two above 17th-placed Murang'a Seal in the automatic relegation slot.
Sharks, on the other hand, are 11th on the log with 37 points but might be safe due to their superior goal difference, -3 as compared to -15 for the best of the three relegation candidates at 34 points.
With the high stakes, Ochieng opened up to Mozzart Sport about what they must do to retain their FKF Premier League status.
“Getting the basics right will be key in getting us through. We all need to be at our best from the first whistle, defend well as a team, win second balls and utilise our chances when they come. I do not think there is another magic,” said Ochieng.
The former Zoo Youth FC captain said that the squad is cognisant of their situation in the league and the task ahead, but have not pressed the panic button.
“We are not in any panic mode. We have a united squad and the coach (Edward Manoah) has instilled belief and the power to fight in us, which I believe will be key against Sharks,” he noted.
The former APS Bomet man also left a message to the Mara faithful ahead of the crucial showdown.
“I would like to urge our fans to show up in large numbers and support the team. It is a crucial game and the final one of the season, and their support will be able to take us over the line,” he concluded.
The Trans Mara-based club hired Manoah to ensure they remain in the league after enduring a tough spell in the second leg that at some point saw them go on a 12-match winless streak.
