The Administrative Police-backed team finally earned a spot in Kenya’s elite league after finishing second in the National Super League (NSL) in the just-concluded season.

They were promoted alongside leaders Nairobi United, while Naivas FC have a date with Posta Rangers in the promotion/relegation playoff.

For Bomet, it was a case of bouncing back after the heartbreak they suffered two years ago.

The team had earned promotion in 2022 when the Caretaker Committee was running football in the country.

However, when FKF was reinstated, they nullified the 2021/22 season, sending APS Bomet and Fortune Sacco back to the second tier.

The two teams protested their return to the second tier and subsequently refused to honour the games, which eventually resulted in their relegation to the third tier.

The team, however, managed to bounce back and got promoted to the NSL at the end of the 2023/24 season and have now earned another promotion—this time to the top league.

For Mafuta, a former Vihiga Bullets and Mwatate United head coach, the feat was achieved by the players’ desire to grace the top league.

He says the players’ minds were set on achieving promotion as they were hungry for success.

"The first thing that really worked for us in seeking to play at the top level was having players who were hungry for success and had the willingness to give it all towards the KPL dream,” he said in an interview with Citizen Digital.

“The camp knew they only had one thing on their mind, the road to the Kenyan Premier League," Mafuta added.

His first stint in the top tier with the now-defunct Bullets was troubled as the team struggled with financial challenges, but he is hoping for a better second stab.

"This is my second stint in the FKF Premier League. I believe my past experience in the league will help the team manoeuvre because we are here to play," Mafuta further explained.
