Tottenham tried luring two Foxes in and got painfuly rejected... Now they will focus on the 'bigger catch' of the two

It's hard being a Leicester fan these days. The Foxes got relegated and their talented squad is being plucked apart. It is a little bit better being a Spurs fan but only a little bit. They keep floating in that mediocre Premier League limbo even though expectations are high ahead of each season.

That being said - Tottenham will try and take advantage of Leicester's current position and try to sign the best the Foxes can offer which at the moment is - James Maddison.

Earlier this month, the Spurs had launched a 58 million euros bid for both Maddison and his team-mate James Barnes however a possibility for such a deal was quickly rebutted as it is obviously unrealistic. The White Hart Lane crew quickly came to their senses and made a more realistic offer. According to reports, they are now preparing to submit a 46 million euros bid for only Maddison

Ange Postecoglou has targetted the England international as one of his priority targets for the summer transfer window. Postecoglou has already agreed his first deal as Spurs boss, with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario arriving from Empoli for 20 million euros.

Back to Maddison. The Spurs will test the waters for the midfielder this week as they wish to strike a deal with Leicester, according to The Telegraph.

Spurs are said to be winning to pay an initial 46 million however the Foxes will demand up to 70 million euros for Maddison, the report continues. Tottenham are willing to include some add-ons, bonuses and further installments on their 46 million offer for a compromise to be found. It remains to be seen as to whether Tottenham will land the 26-year-old, who has also been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United.

There was a feeling Spurs had edged ahead of the Magpies in the race for Maddison after Eddie Howe's side agreed a deal to for AC Milan star Sandro Tonali. But this week it emerged that a bid from Newcastle still remained possible despite the impending arrival of the talented Italian.
