Four men were detained outside the Jean-Bouin Stadium just before Paris FC-OL kicked off, in a surreal twist to the €88 million jewel robbery

The investigation into the spectacular Louvre robbery has taken yet another unexpected turn.

Five new suspects have been arrested in Paris and its suburbs, four of them in the most unlikely of places: waiting calmly in line to watch a Ligue 1 match!

According to France Info, the arrests occurred on Wednesday evening, just before kickoff of the Paris FC - Olympique Lyon clash at the Stade Jean-Bouin. Police officers swooped in on the group moments before they entered the ground, taking them into custody without incident.

A fifth suspect was detained earlier the same day at his home. Among those arrested, investigators believe one may have been the driver of one of the scooters used to transport the thieves during the daring operation at the Louvre - a heist that saw jewelry worth an estimated €88 million vanish in minutes.

The four others are suspected of having aided in organizing the robbery or helping the main culprits evade capture. All five are now being questioned at the Paris judicial police headquarters.

Eleven days after the lightning-fast theft, the case continues to unfold like a crime thriller - and investigators are still hoping that somewhere, the missing jewels can be recovered.
