It's official: Raheem Sterling joins Chelsea

What a day this is for Chelsea fans. They learned that their club has clinched the signing of Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly just a couple of hours before they were greeted by a brand new sight - that of Raheem Sterling in a Chelsea shirt.

The 27-year-old star joins the Blues from Manchester City in a deal worth around $57 million. The speedy winger will earn even more than the $360,000 he got weekly at Etihad Stadium. The ambitious player returns to his native London after spending his entire professional career in the north of England - in Liverpool and Manchester.

"First and foremost, it's a pleasure to be here. I've obviously achieved a lot in my career so far, but there is still so much more to achieve and I'm really looking forward to doing that in a Chelsea shirt under Thomas's management. London is my home and where it all started for me, and it's amazing I now have the opportunity to play in front of friends and family week in, and week out at Stamford Bridge. I'm really looking forward to meeting the fans there soon."

The England international's offensive attributes have posted impressive numbers in recent seasons, including 25 goal contributions last term as Man City retained the domestic title and reached the Champions League semi-finals. Most of his goals are converted from close range, a testament to the forward's clever movement and timing.

Since 2016/17, he is one of only eight players to have scored 80 or more Premier League goals, averaging 22 in all competitions across the past five seasons and an average of 10 assists per term over the same period.
