He came on in the 69th minute with the team already trailing by two goals

Kenyan international Sydney Lokale made his debut at the continental stage as he came on from the bench for Saint-Éloi Lupopo as they lost 3-0 to USM Algers in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.

The former Kariobangi Sharks player was introduced in the 69th minute for Josué Kazema Baso with his side already trailing by two goals and needing to get at least a goal back but it would not be the case as they conceded again shortly.

Of the four Kenyans whose teams qualified for the group stages of both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, only Lokale and Joash Onyango featured for their respective teams over the weekend, with Sven Yidah and Brian Mandela missing for Marumo Gallants and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively.

Khaled Bousseliou opened the scoring for the Algerian side after seven minutes before doubling the advantage with his second of the match five minutes after the hour mark.

With eight minutes left on the clock, Aimen Mahious scored the third goal for USM Algiers to put the game to bed and make it extremely hard for Lupopo to salvage even a point in North Africa.

Lokale will be hoping to get more minutes under his belt in the continental scene when Lupopo host Marumo Gallants next weekend before playing Al-Akhdar to wrap up the first leg of the group stage a week later.

In the absence of Sven Yidah, Marumo Gallants picked an emphatic 4-1 win over Al Akhdar at home to go top of the group.
