Nigerian forward will join Nottingham Forest
After six years of trying to find his football home, Taiwo Awoniyi will get a long-overdue taste of English football. The 24-year-old Union Berlin striker will join Nottingham Forest in a $20 million transfer.
Forest are also poised to face Union Berlin in a pre-season friendly next month, with Awoniyi in line for a swift reunion with his former teammates.

Bundesliga 21/22:
‣ Goals: 15
‣ xG: 14.31
Averaged a strong 0.64 goals/95 and 0.61 xG/95. Will be really interesting to see how he gets on in the Premier League.#NFFC pic.twitter.com/XxqaWtjWkM
Liverpool signed Awoniyi in August 2015 but he never played a senior game for the club. Instead. he was loaned out seven times before he signed permanently for Union Berlin last year.
During 2021/22 he bagged 20 goals as the team enjoyed a fantastic campaign and qualified for a place in Europe. Interestingly, the latest report claims that Awoniyi will sign for Forest despite Champions League outfit RB Leipzig showing some interest.
The striker clearly has a desire to return to the Premier League, and perhaps he's keen to show Liverpool what they're missing. He enjoyed a 20-goal haul in Bundesliga and will arrive at the Riverside Stadium with his confidence sky-high.
Steve Cooper has reportedly agreed a new contract with Evangelos Marinakis and is now stepping up his search for reinforcements this week.

Awoniyi has been likened to the late Rashidi Yekini, Nigeria's record 37-goal marksman. He also has explosive power, a poacher's instinct and a cool head in common with Divock Origi. Once Awoniyi had been granted a UK work permit, he'd already had his head turned by Union, the club he's played the previous season for as a loaned player.

After over-performing for the Berlin club, he earned the call back to England. Nottingham Forest will have a difficult task to remain in the Premier League following their play-off final win over Sheffield United at Wembley. The team managed by miracle-worker Steve Cooper is looking to add Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson and Liverpool's Neco Williams to their ranks.
