A verbal agreement has been reached…

The burning question at Anfield has been resolved. Liverpool & Jeremie Frimpong – hand in hand!

Trent Alexander-Arnold will play his final match in a Liverpool shirt next weekend, bidding farewell to the club to which he has devoted most of his life, before heading to Madrid to sign with Real. Ever since he announced his departure – upsetting a large portion of the fanbase – a "gap" appeared on the right flank, and Arne Slot made it a priority to address this pressing issue.

He has succeeded. Reports from all sides indicate that Liverpool and Jeremie Frimpong have finalized everything. This was also confirmed by Florian Plettenberg from Germany’s Sky Sports. A verbal agreement has been reached – the supersonic full-back has given his word to the Anfield club’s sporting department that he will wear the red shirt. They’ve agreed on all terms.

The Dutchman is expected to sign a contract with Liverpool in the coming weeks, and the duration is already known – five years, running until 2030. Medicals have also been scheduled. Nothing should fall through; everything is practically ready, and only the end of the season remains before Jeremie Frimpong returns to England.

Since Bayer Leverkusen wrapped up their season today with a draw against Mainz, the deal could be finalized very soon. Between 35 and 40 millions will be transferred to the BayArena. Due to the release clause in his contract, Leverkusen cannot earn more than that.

This move gives Jeremie Frimpong a fresh chance to prove himself in England – his first real opportunity in the Premier League. As a youngster, he arrived at Manchester City, went through their academy, and played in the youth ranks as a teenager, but never made a senior appearance. The Citizens let him go to Celtic for just 380,000 (!?), which in hindsight appears to have been a major oversight.

Bayer Leverkusen scouted him at the right moment, paying 11 millions in the winter of 2021 – a move that has paid off many times over, at least financially. On the pitch, it already has. During his time at the BayArena, the Dutchman scored 30 goals and provided 44 assists, becoming part of club history. He will be remembered forever as a member of the squad that brought Leverkusen their first-ever Bundesliga title. In the same season, he also won the DFB-Pokal, and the Supercup could follow next.

The time has come for a new challenge. Now it’s up to him to fill Trent Alexander-Arnold’s boots and ensure that Liverpool doesn’t feel the loss of the Englishman. The two players have similar profiles – both love to drive forward with the ball and contribute significantly in the attacking half, though they’re known to occasionally lose focus defensively.

All in all, Liverpool will be getting a physically strong and offensively potent right-back in Jeremie Frimpong, who will now operate more as a traditional full-back.
