The experienced midfielder is staying at Liverpool

It's difficult to remember the time when James Milner hasn't been a part of our football-loving lives. The 36-year-old all-rounder has been a Premier League staple for 20 years - and he's just signed a new contract with Liverpool that will see him remain at Anfield for 12 more months.

In the season that's just ended, Milner featured in 39 games as the Reds lifted the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup. On a personal level, the midfielder passed 800 matches in his professional career, making him one of the most durable footballers at the top level.

In total, Milner has played 289 games for Liverpool, more than for any other club in his career. He netted 26 goals during his time at Anfield so far - and will have another year to improve his stats further.

"I'm very pleased to be staying for another season. I have never taken playing for this club for granted, and I never will. I believe I can still contribute to the team. The gaffer was clear what he thought, and that was a big factor in me extending my contract."

Since arriving on a free transfer from Manchester City seven years ago, the boyhood Leeds United fan has helped Jurgen Klopp's team win the Premier League, Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and both domestic cups in England.

Liverpool boss is delighted to hang on to Milner's experience and quality for another year.

"A lot is often made of James' leadership skills and his influence in the dressing room, and of course, that's correct and justified, but nobody should overlook his quality on the pitch. We simply couldn't afford to lose him. His professionalism is the benchmark for any athlete, and it's why he sets the tone for this team with his ability and attitude."

The Red locomotive keeps on going!
