The Ivorian made a hilarious goof during the press conference ahead of the Legends El Clasico, making everyone present laugh and shocking his ex-teammate Carles Puyol
Last Sunday, a genuine spectacle unfolded in El Salvador, where the 2025 Legends El Clasico was held. On one side, Barcelona icons, Vitor Baia, Carles Puyol, Yaya Toure, Ludovic Giuly, Phillip Cocu, Javier Saviola and more. And opposite them, Real Madrid's former stars, Iker Casillas, Raul Bravo, Pepe, Guti, Steve McManaman, Julio Baptista and others.
In the end, the Catalans triumphed 2-0 thanks to Saviola's brace, but one situation in the press conference before the match became viral. The central figure was Yaya Toure, who spoke to the media alongside his ex-teammate Carles Puyol, and made a startling confession regarding the host country.
Namely, the Ivorian admitted he had no idea that El Salvador was a sovereign state?!
"I thought it was in Brazil or something like that…" Yaya bluntly revealed.
Yaya Touré: "I didn’t know that El Salvador was a country, I thought I was currently in Brazil or something like that, but it’s a pleasure to be here because the people are very humble." 😂🇸🇻 pic.twitter.com/6tEl1Dk9WJ

And while everyone in the room burst into laughter, Puyol was staring at the former midfielder in disbelief.
Either way, Toure's comment was not taken the wrong way, as he had no bad intentions. After all, the entire showdown in El Salvador was about good vibes, cheerful atmosphere, and the promotion of football.
Yaya is currently an assistant manager in the Saudi Arabia national team staff, but if he ever decides to switch careers, we can only hope he won't aim to become a geography teacher.
