Leaders KCB pile more misery on struggling Ulinzi Stars

Reading Time: 2min | Sun. 29.09.24. | 15:13

The Bankers have won three of their opening four games of the season while Ulinzi Stars have lost two of their opening three games

Francis Kahiro's second-half strike was all KCB needed to secure a 1-0 victory over Ulinzi Stars FC in an FKF Premier League match held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.

Kahiro’s goal, his third of the season, propelled to third on the scorers' chart as well as ensured his side kept the unbeaten run.

The match began cautiously, with both teams evenly matched and looking to assert control. Ulinzi had the first clear opportunity in the 15th minute through a free-kick just outside the box.

Boniface Muchiri's shot beat the KCB wall, but goalkeeper Farouk Shikalo made a fine save. Moments later, youngster Telena Ochieng forced another save from Shikalo, keeping the Bankers in the game.

Ulinzi suffered a setback in the 30th minute when midfielder Staphod Odhiambo was forced off with an injury, with Joseph Ochieng coming on as his replacement.

KCB’s best chance of the half came in the 37th minute when Kahiro struck the side netting after latching onto a loose ball inside the box.

The second half mirrored the first, with both sides struggling to create clear chances.

KCB broke the deadlock in the 55th minute when a loose ball fell to Kahiro, who bundled it home on the first attempt.

Ulinzi nearly equalized two minutes later from a free-kick, but Shikalo denied Ochieng's effort, and the rebound went over the bar.

Late pressure from both teams did not yield much as the backlines stood tall to prevent more goals.

The win pushed KCB to 10 points from four games, extending their lead at the top of the table.

Ulinzi, on the other hand, suffered their second loss of the season and have just one point from their draw with Shabana FC last weekend.
