Lampard sacked, Everton line up Marcelo Bielsa as his successor

We singled out the West Ham – Everton match as the one in which one of two coaches could be sacked, and it happened two days after. The Toffies suffered another disappointing loss without a goal scored and it was a final straw for the troubled club. Everton officially announced the departure of coach Frank Lampard, just eight days before his one year anniversary in Liverpool. All British media have already announced he was fired today over the phone earlier this morning. On January 31st 2022, former Chelsea player and manager signed a two and a half year deal with Toffies but with 11 defeats already and 19th place in the Premier League, the struggling club will again look for a new coach.

Lampard won’t be happy either, as his managerial tenure started great with Derby County, but crashed afterwards, as he faced two sacks in the space of just two years. He arrived at Goodison Park last year in the middle of the survival battle and secured a place in the English elite competition, but one year after, he is leaving the club to his potential successor in the worse position than when he took over from Rafa Benitez.

Frank and his team’s commitment and dedication have been exemplary throughout their time at the Club, but recent results and the current league position meant this difficult decision had to be taken. The Club has started the process to secure a new manager and will provide updates on the appointment in due course" reads the official statement.

Of course, Lampard is only one tiny problem for Everton fans, as they are after the club’s brass, whose wrong financial and managerial decision led to this situation in the first place. Players’ poor form on the pitch has also been marred by off-pitch protests by fans towards the club's deeply unpopular board, with players such as Yerry Mina and Anthony Gordon also confronted by angry supporters after the defeat by Southampton earlier this month.

Since the arrival of owner Farad Moshiri in February 2016, Goodison Park has replaced seven coaches, including Lampard. None of them managed to last two full seasons. Roberto Martinez, Ronald Koeman, Sam Allardyce, Marco Silva, Carlo Ancelotti (decided to leave after Real called him) and Rafa Benitez lost their jobs, so Lampard is just another in the long line. As per British media, his successor will be Marcelo Bielsa. The Argentinian is the club’s first choice, but he has been out of job since being sacked by Leeds in February 2022. Other names being mentioned are Sean Dyche, former striker Wayne Rooney and Ancelotti’s assistant Duncan Ferguson.
