Klopp is one of us - Liverpool gaffer admits he hates international breaks

"It didn't help from an injury point of view... I would have loved to have played the weekend after (the West Ham defeat)"

Sure, it's exciting during those few days, especially when the qualifying drama reaches its peak, but, in truth, those international breaks are a sort of an unwanted hiatus for most of us.

International football is fine, but club football makes the world go around, to put it smoothly.

So when Jurgen Klopp has opened up today about his opinion on the matter, it struck us how straightforward the Liverpool coach can be. Asked if the latest international break was well-timed, he responded frankly...

"No! I hate international breaks! And it didn't help from an injury point of view (either).

"I would have loved to have played the weekend after (the West Ham defeat), "explained Klopp during the pre-match press conference ahead of the Scousers' Premier League derby against Arsenal at Anfield.

Klopp is facing a dreadful situation, with as many as seven players - James Milner, Andy Robertson, Joe Gomez, Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Naby Keita - sidelined for the injuries.

"It's not easy [having to change]. We have too many games, but it'd be cool to have more options (fewer injuries) and training days together.

"Last year, we had a strange situation with the centre-backs, and it looks like this is the one now for the midfield. We need to find a solution for Arsenal, and that is what we do."

Asked about his relationship with the Reds legend Steven Gerrard - who will make his debut this Saturday at Villa Park against Brighton - the German tactician responded:

"I sent Steven a message after he signed the contract at Aston Villa, but they are private. I am looking forward to seeing him, and I am happy for him, but I am fine if that [conversation] stays private, "he concluded.
