Wazito has found the going tough in the FKFPL this season and are currently third bottom on the log

Struggling Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) side Wazito FC have fired head coach Francis Kimanzi, the club has confirmed.

This is after the former Harambee Stars head coach displayed lethargic results since the start of the 2021/2022 league campaign where the crypto backed side currently find themselves in the relegation battle as they sit third from bottom on the log having collected a paltry nine points from thirteen games.

Kimanzi departs from the team alongside his assistants Jeff Odongo and John Kamau with goalkeeper coach Samuel Koko also shown the exit door at the club.

Following their exit, former head coach Fred Ambani who is the current Youth Team boss has been reinstated to take charge of first-team duties on an interim basis with immediate effect.

“We can confirm that head coach Francis Kimanzi, his assistants Jeff Odongo and John Kamau, and the goalkeepers' coach Samuel Koko have left the club. we wish them well in their future endeavors. Youth team head coach Fred Ambani assumes first-team duties in the interim with immediate effect,” Wazito confirmed in a statement.

Having been employed on a four-year contract back in November 2020, Kimanzi leaves Wazito after only fourteen months in charge with the club. He took charge of the team for the entire 2020/2021 league campaign where he led the Ricardo Badoer funded outfit to a 9th place finish having collected 45 points.

It is in his second season at the club that the team fell below expected standards despite the vastly experienced coach being given a free hand to bring in his players at the club with the likes of Tyson Otieno, Cliff Nyakeya, James Kinyanjui and Erickson Mulu signed before the season commenced with an intention to improve the side.

That has however not been the case with the club already losing eight of their opening games. The most recent one coming at the hands of a hitherto winless Vihiga Bullets who got their first-ever win in the top flight league courtesy of their 4-2 victory. That match would mark Kimanzi's last game at the club before heads went rolling.

The experienced tactician becomes the seventh coach to be sacked by Wazito in the last two years after the sackings of Ambani, Stewart Hall, Stanley Okumbi, Fred Ouna, Hamisi Abdalla and Melis Medo.
