The Law Enforcers carry a 3-1 advantage heading into Sunday's clash at Nyayo Stadium

Kenya Police FC skipper David 'Cheche' Ochieng has asked his teammates to remain humble ahead of their CAF Champions League Preliminary Round second-leg against Somalia’s Mogadishu City at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, 28 September.

Ochieng, speaking after the club’s training session on Tuesday, dismissed any thoughts of Police feeling complacent for the upcoming match, though aware of a two-goal advantage they carry from the first leg.

Playing in their first CAF Champions League qualification fixture last Saturday, Kenya Police ground hard to record a 3-1 victory over the Somali champions, a result that meant they had one foot into the second preliminary round, where either South Sudan’s Jamus FC Juba or Sudanese heavyweights Al Hilal awaits.

Ochieng, however, thinks his team’s focus needs to be elevated, if Mogadishu City’s display is anything to go by.

“Our job is not finished. It never is,” Ochieng, who missed the first-leg match, said. “The first leg was not an easy game like many people expected, and we now know what Mogadishu can do.”

Police, despite taking an early lead in the first leg, were forced to work hard for the win, after the enterprising visitors equalised just four minutes after the break.

“They have the potential to hurt teams,” Ochieng said of the Somali Premier League champions. “This time round, they have nothing to lose, and my call to everyone is to be humble enough till the final whistle.

All of us need to stay focused and keep making history for this club.”

Head coach Etienne Ndayiragije sounded a similar message, urging caution, while still optimistic about his team’s chances of progression.

The 46-year-old drew his experience of watching Mogadishu City during the recently concluded CECAFA Kagame Cup in Tanzania, saying they were not a team anyone could afford to ignore.

“What I saw from them in Tanzania and in the first leg was similar,” Ndayiragije said. “They are a really hardworking side in tight spaces, and can hit you on the counterattack.

We will need to keep our concentration levels high, and most importantly, stick to the basics.”
