His current deal with Abana Abeingo expires on Friday next week

Kakamega Homeboyz could lose centre-back Robinson Kamura in the mid-season transfer window for nothing after efforts to tie the defender to a new deal hit a snag.

Kamura joined Homeboyz last year on a year-long deal that is set to expire on Friday next week, rendering him a free agent weeks before the opening of the January transfer window.

Before joining Homeboyz, Kamura had been a free agent after leaving KCB in July last year.

Kamura, while appreciating efforts by the Homeboyz management to retain his services for longer, regretted that nothing had been agreed on and will possibly look out for options once the window opens.

The former AFC Leopards captain enjoyed a successful campaign with Homeboyz last season, winning the Mozzart Bet Cup, and was recalled to the national team after five years in the cold.

Talks between my representative and the club haven’t yielded fruit,” revealed the defender.

The outspoken defender attracted interest from the Tanzanian duo of Coastal Union and Dodoma Jiji but the prospects of playing continental football with Homeboyz saw him remain in the books of the Kenyan club.

Further, it is understood that coach Patrick Odhiambo rates the former Mathare United man highly and recommended for the retention of his services.

I had options in the last transfer window but chose to stay put,” stated Kamura.

Meanwhile, Kamura denied that the contract situation was the reason behind his long absence from the team.

He attributed an ankle injury to missing league assignments for a while.

Odhiambo has been pairing assistant skipper Brian Eshihanda and Portipher Odhiambo at the heart of the defence in the absence of Kamura.

Veteran defenders George Odiwuor and John Otieno have been providing options.

I have been nursing an injury for some weeks. Had I been fully fit, I would have played my contract situation notwithstanding,” added Kamura.
