The return match will be played on Sunday night
Kakamega Homeboyz will jet out of the country on Thursday morning for the return leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round against Libya’s Al Hilal Benghazi.
Homeboyz, have an uphill task ahead of them as the Patrick Odhiambo-coached side will have to beat Al Hilal or force a scoring draw in front of their fans.
The team finds itself in such a situation heading to the second leg after failing to win the first leg staged at the Nyayo Stadium last weekend.
Al Hilal, who had mastered the art of time wasting frustrated Homeboyz to a barren draw and will be seeking to beat the Kenyan side and advance to the next round where, Rwanda’s Rayon Sports lies in wait.
Homeboyz team manager Boniface Imbenzi revealed that the team will hit the runaway on Thursday but didn’t divulge more on the number of players who will travel to Libya.
“Our flight is scheduled for Thursday. The players are readying for the game. We will announce those who will travel possibly om Tuesday evening,” said Imbenzi.
With the return leg schedule for Sunday night, Imbenzi said it was prudent to arrive on time and acclimatize to the sweltering conditions in Benghazi.
“It is important to be there on time. It will give us room to settle and focus on the game,” added Imbenzi.
Homeboyz qualified for the Confederation Cup after clinching the Mozzart Bet Cup during the final played on July 1 at Kasarani Stadium.
Abana Abeingo beat Tusker 1-0 in the final courtesy of second half strike from Kevin Amwayi.
The cup triumph was the first for the club since its inception and tagged along with the right to represent the country in the continental tournament.
Gor Mahia had also earned a place in the CAF Champions League but the record Kenyan champions were locked out after their club licensing certificate was revoked.
