Juve, you can return to the top

Reading Time: 2min | Sat. 28.10.23. | 16:20

For all their problems, Massimiliano Allegri and Juventus are headed in the right direction

With a victory against Verona, Juventus can climb to the top of the table, at least for one night. Meanwhile, the coach can find a reason to smile based on a certain statistic.

Allegri emphasized the need for humility following the win against Milan. Is it a season to go for the title? The coach doesn't want to discuss it at this stage.

"I've seen a lot of enthusiasm from the outside, and it can hurt us. In March, we'll see where we stand; the goal is to finish in the top four."

Allegri is always clear and direct, but there's a statistic that can bring a half-smile to his face, at least for a few hours, ahead of the match against Verona. A statistic that hasn't been seen for a few years, back when Max wasn't on the bench, but Sarri was. The result of that season? First in the league and a raised trophy.

As they say, a good start is half the battle. Strong beginnings are important. Although they are not everything, they certainly set you on the right path. And that's the path Juventus seems to have taken. So, let's turn to the numbers. What do they say? Juventus hadn't collected at least twenty points after nine matches since the 2019/20 season, which was the last time they won the league. In that case, they had 23 points. Only one loss to Sassuolo and two draws against Bologna and Atalanta, which amounted to a good haul. Currently, Allegri's team is trailing Inter and Milan, just two points off the top, which they can climb to, at least for one night, with a victory against Verona. Chiesa and his teammates could once again be looking down on everyone, pending the big matches between Napoli-Milan and Inter-Roma. Here are the points accumulated by the Old Lady in the last five seasons after nine matches:

Season 23/24: 20 points with Massimiliano Allegri

Season 22/23: 13 points with Massimiliano Allegri

Season 21/22: 15 points with Massimiliano Allegri

Season 20/21: 17 points with Andrea Pirlo

Season 19/20: 23 points with Maurizio Sarri
