Ivorian-descent gem dethrones Roma and puts Inter on Serie A top

Ange-Yoan Bonny scored after only six minutes against the best defence in the league, and won the game for the Nerazzurri - 1-0

It was nice while it lasted. Roma spent some time topping the Serie A table and reminded everyone of the glorious days when they were title contenders each season, led by the "Prince of Rome," Francesco Totti.

Tonight, the Wolfess had a crucial exam, against the last season's Champions League runners-up, Inter Milan, and failed. And at the bottom of their test, where a professor's name should stand, it says Ange-Yoan Bonny.

Inter's Ivorian-descent gem faced a tough challenge to replace Marcus Thuram in the lineup, and did wonders, netting the sixth-minute winner and bringing his team vital three points. However, another hero of Cristian Chivu's crew is the keeper Yann Sommer, who kept the Nerazzurri's head above water in the second half and defended their minimal lead - 1-0.

Even though they conceded the fewest goals in the Serie A this season - only two in six games - Roma's defence collapsed after only six minutes, as Ange-Yoan Bonny put the Nerazzurri in front! A bad offside trap was fatal for the Wolfess, allowing the Frenchman of Ivorian descent an easy finish following Nicolo Barella's tremendous pass.

Seven minutes later, Bryan Cristante had the best chance for the home team in the first half, but his header went over the bar after a corner.

Afterwards, Inter managed to anaesthetize the rivals, defend the lead without a hitch, and await the break with a minimal advantage.

Given the result, Roma had to pursue the leveller and open up more room for Inter's counterattacks. In the 50th minute, the keeper Mile Svilar saved Gian Piero Gasperini's crew, stopping Denzel Dumfries' dangerous attempt. In the following four, the goalie on the opposite side of the pitch, Yann Sommer, responded to his fellow colleague with a triple save! One after Paulo Dybala's powerful close-range effort, the other following Mario Hermoso's header after a corner-kick, and the last one after the Argentinian's free-kick strike. Nevertheless, Inter were still up.

However, as the ref's final whistle approached, the Giallorossi's attacks were more dangerous. In the 58th minute, Francesco Acerbi saved the visitors after Zeki Celik's shot, while seconds later, Artem Dovbyk - Roma's striker paid €30.5 million to Girona - managed to head the ball over the bar of the empty goal?!

Inter boss Cristian Chivu realized that his team's edge was hanging by a thread, so he left only one striker on the pitch (Lautaro Martinez), replacing the scorer of the opener, Bonny, with the midfielder Petar Sucic.

By the end of the match, each team wasted one good chance - Henrikh Mkhitaryan hit the post for Inter, while Sommer stopped Dovbyk's attempt - as the Nerazzurri emerged victorious. They now leapfrogged Roma in the Serie A top spot, but the time they'll spend there depends on AC Milan and Juventus' tomorrow's results.
