Aguero’s arrival means that Lionel Messi will almost certainly to stay at the club

One by one, transfer stories from the beginning of the 2021 are beginning to resolve, one way or another. David Alaba finally found a club (Real Madrid), and now, Sergio Aguero has ended his transfer speculation, and signed for Barcelona, as it was projected all along. Barcelona officially announced the deal today, and the press conference is scheduled for the evening.

After learning the „old player“ lesion the hard way, by allowing Luis Suarez (then 33) to walk away and win the title with Atletico Madrid, the Catalonians have decided to sign Aguero (33 in two days) as their striker, and pair him up with his best mate Lionel Messi. The two „youngsters“ will lead the Barca attack in the future, since Aguero signed a two year deal, until 2023, and the deal includes a release clause of 100 million euros. Aguero will participate in this year's Copa America, which on Monday was moved from Colombia and his home country Argentina to Brazil.

And in his first interview after agreeing to join Barcelona, Aguero praised his new side as the 'best' club in world football.

"We all know that Barca are the best club in the world. So I think I made a great decision to be here and I hope to help the team. Of course it's a step forward in my career. I'm really happy and hopefully I can help the team to win things. First of all, I wanted to play and help this squad and if the team does it well I'll be happy individually. I just try to help the team, and try to arrive at the end of the season with chances to win the titles“ said Aguero for the Barca TV.

The Argentinian is coming back to La Liga, where he used to play for Atletico Madrid before he went to England, but now, he is much more experienced.

"I want to send a big hug to all supporters. I will try to give my best and hopefully the fans will enjoy my football skills. I've changed. When I arrived in Europe at Atletico Madrid I was 18 years old, I learned a lot. Then I played for City in the Premier League. Now I've changed my way of playing, but I have an idea of where I can play and I will try to help my teammates with my experience" said Aguero.

After 10 seasons with the Premier League, Aguero left Manchester City and will become an official Barca player on June 1st. In total with Manchester City he scored 260 goals, created 74 assists and won 15 trophies - 5 Premier League titles, 1 FA Cup, 6 League Cups and 3 Community Shields, the Premier League's version of the Super Cup.

Aguero’s arrival means that Lionel Messi will almost certainly to stay at the club. The Argentinians are personal friends and wanted to play together for a long time, so it would be crazy if Messi would tell his mate to sign for Barcelona and then leave the club. Barcelona will still look for another forward during the transfer window, since Aguero had problems with injuries in the past two seasons. Memphis Depay from Lyon should arrive as a free agent also, but unlike Aguero’s, his arrival is closely associated with the future of Ronald Koeman. If the Dutchman stays as manager, he will almost certainly stay, but if he goes, maybe Depay will look for another club.
