Isn’t that too much? Club punished with a 94-point deduction

One of the biggest point-deduction penalties in football history

Romanian club FC U Craiova is facing a staggering 94-point deduction amid ongoing financial turmoil. The Romanian Football Federation (FRF) imposed the sanction due to the club’s alleged failure to pay former coaches, employees, and players their overdue wages.

DigiSport reports that unpaid debts to rivals Dinamo Bucharest also contributed to the colossal deduction. Unsurprisingly, Craiova now sit at the very bottom of Liga III.

The situation could worsen if the club does not provide proof of debt repayment by September 3. Without evidence that all outstanding obligations have been settled, Craiova risk exclusion from all FRF, LPF, and AJF competitions.

Despite the severity of the punishment, club owner Adrian Mititelu remains confident that further sanctions will be avoided.

He told Golazo: "We will not be excluded. The situation will be resolved one way or another. We have already contested every point deduction and the refusal to be accepted into League 2 at the Court. The files are pending, so their decisions cannot produce effects while they are contested."

The scale of Craiova’s deduction is unprecedented, eclipsing even the sanctions handed to Italian clubs AC Milan, Fiorentina, and Lazio during the Calciopoli scandal. Each Italian club lost 30 points in the 2005/06 season, while Juventus faced even harsher punishment with relegation to Serie B.
