That's the Nerazzurri's fourth Serie A win in a row

The Supercoppa setback was quickly forgotten.

Inter returned to winning ways in Serie A and reclaimed top spot with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Atalanta in the Lombardy derby.

It was one of the toughest away trips in the league, but Inter once again proved that their strength lies up front.

They are Serie A's most prolific side - 35 goals in 16 matches - with more than half scored by their attackers.

Captain Lautaro Martínez, the league's top scorer, delivered the decisive moment in Bergamo on Sunday night.

The breakthrough came thanks to 18-year-old Francesco Pio Esposito, introduced just a minute earlier.

The youngster intercepted a careless Djimsiti pass and set up Lautaro, who made no mistake with the gift.

The scoreline hid an intense, high-tempo contest.

The Nerazzurri started strongly and had a Thuram goal ruled out for offside after VAR intervention, while Atalanta stayed compact and dangerous, especially after the break.

Chances came at both ends, with Bisseck clearing off the line and Scamacca seeing a goal disallowed.

Inter's lead was deserved, but holding it was an exercise in survival.

They dropped deep and invited pressure, and Atalanta almost punished them late on when Lazar Samardzic missed a golden chance in the 87th minute.

The final whistle confirmed Internazionale's fourth consecutive league win and a return to the summit. Bologna await at San Siro in the new year, and Inter will be ready.
