Shabana FC head coach Peter Okidi reiterated that the team is in the race to win this season’s FKF Premier League after a positive start for the Glamour Boys, who currently sit at the top of the log.

They beat APS Bomet 4-2 in the opener before securing a 1-0 away win over Bandari in Mombasa, a result that moved them to the top of the table with six points, atally similar to that of Posta Rangers.

However, Shabana sit at the summit by virtue of their better goal difference.

Before the season began, the former Nakuru Bucks FC coach had stated that the team’s plan was to go all the way and win the league title.

After their strong start, he maintains they are not just participants but genuine contenders, though he admits the journey will not be easy.

“When we started the league, I said and we agreed with my team that we are here to win it, not just to take part. We will stay humble before God and keep working even harder for more results,” he said after their win in Mombasa.

Shabana edged Bandari despite not being at their best for large parts of the game.

They were second best for much of the encounter before starman Brian Michira sealed the win with a second-half goal.

Okidi praised his players for their resilience throughout the game.

“I am grateful for the energy from the boys. Everything we practiced came to life, and we finished the match without injuries, giving us more positive momentum going into other matches,” he added.
