Gor Mahia have not won against Vihiga United since February 2019

Gor Mahia duo of captain Harun Shakava and forward Tito Okello have expressed caution ahead of their Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) away clash against Vihiga United that is set to take place on Thursday afternoon in Mumias.

Since the league’s resumption, the defending champions who had a well-documented stuttering start to their first half of the season, have not dropped any points in the three games they have played; winning two league matches against Nairobi City Stars and Sofapaka before advancing to the Football Kenya Federation Cup Round of 32 after ousting minnows Congo Boys United.

Despite that upturn in form, the duo expressed their concerns ahead of the match as Gor have not managed to find a way past the county-funded side since February 2019. In the first leg, Vihiga shredded K'Ogalo's air of invincibility with a stunning 0-1 victory back on 23rd January, and with Gor set to travel away to Vihiga’s home ground, the captain has backed his side to fight for all the three points.

"It's going to be a tough match because we lost to them in the first leg but we are ready today and we are going for a win," captain Shakava is quoted on the club’s social media portal.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Okello, who has found his scoring boots after scoring in two consecutive games, has also called on his team to be very cautious in their approach in the game.

“An away game like that will not be a very easy game for us. It will even be difficult because the team is battling the relegation fight and they will have the advantage of playing at home. We just need to win as we aim to get back to the top,” Okello said.

The relegation-threatened Vihiga United would be fancying their chances of completing a memorable league double over the defending champions when the two sides face-off later today at the Mumias Complex.

The match kicks off at 1500 EAT.
