Former Posta winger takes a brief break from football, eyes comeback next season

Former Posta Rangers winger Bill Oporia is hoping to stage a strong comeback to active football next season after a purge which hit the mailmen in February reduced him to a free agent.

Oporia was unfortunate to be among the scores of players whom were released by the club following the change of guard. Posta rung changes in their technical bench structure in the month, bringing in former Harambee Stars boss Stanley Okumbi back to the fold after nearly six years in the cold.

Okumbi who was appointed alongside Collins Omondi as his deputy replaced Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo who was shown the door under unclear circumstances.

The arrival of Okumbi saw a number of players released to quench their thirst for playing time elsewhere with Oporia in the mix.

The former Tusker winger who harbors no hard feelings to the Okumbi led technical bench for dropping him revealed that he returned home in Busia to re-strategize and cool off for a few months.

Oporia who returned to Nairobi after President Uhuru Kenyatta eased the travel restrictions imposed on the five counties classified as single infection zone said he is currently training with his former side Strathmore University football team.

"I am silently working on my return to active football after I left Posta a few months ago. After I was released, I returned home to spend time with my mum and after getting over it, I came back to Nairobi. I am sharpening my skills at Strathmore and hopefully, I will be back strong and better, " he said.

Oporia who regretted the decision by Posta to send him parking opened up on why he turned down offers from Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) debutants Bidco United and National Super League side FC Talanta who immediately sought his services after leaving the mailmen.

"There were interests from Bidco and Talanta but I felt I was in the right state of mind to take one of the two. Bidco are still pushing to sign me but I will make the right decision at an appropriate time," he added.

Despite Posta deeming him surplus to requirement, the former Ushuru winger is indebted to the corporation bosses for offering him a permanent job therein.

"The club released me at a time when the window was almost shutting and fully aware that teams rarely recruit owing to the economic effects triggered by coronavirus. However, through the studies acquired at Strathmore, they gave me a job in the corporation which has been keeping me going, " he added
