Owino names Wazito skipper as his role model

Fast-rising Kakamega Homeboyz star Sylvester Owino considers battle hardened Wazito skipper Bernard Ochieng as his role model.

The 20-year old defender who is in his debut season in the top flight has punched above his weight considering that he has featured in all league matches and has three goals against his name in the campaign.

Asked about his role model, the towering defender pointed at Wazito’s centre back whom he hailed for his style of play.

My role model locally I can say is Bernard Ochieng of Wazito FC. I like his style of play and I try to emulate how he plays. He is tough on the pitch, a great tackler, and good on the air. He is also a leader, a complete defender in my opinion and I try to learn things from him,” he told Mozzartsport.

Asked on how he was faring in the top flight, the former Vihiga Bullets man said he is satisfied with the progress he has made but eyes further improvement.

I am happy with my progress so far. I keep working hard because I want to improve myself and keep growing. My teammates and coach have been helpful so far and I am happy with the steps I have made,” he added.

Meanwhile, the former Kisumu Day High School alumnus is itching to don in the national team colors . He believes he has come of age and a call up to the the junior teams is long overdue.

The short-term goal is to play for the junior national teams and later the senior team. It is everyone’s dream to play for the national team and I am no different,” he concluded.

The defender joined Kakamega Homeboyz at the start of the season from the National Super League side, Vihiga Bullets.
